Student behavior that interferes with the educational process has been a continuing concern and source of frustration for educators. Teachers, parents, and other professionals working with children who display challenging behaviors need information, training, and the support of school and district-wide programs.
The Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) has produced memos and other guidance documents to assist states and districts in complying with the requirements of IDEA 2004 and NCLB.
Across the nation states are supporting statewide behavior programs. Many are based on the positive behavioral intervention approach, which is closely aligned with Response to Intervention in that it emphasizes data-based decision making. This section highlights several state initiatives.
