The importance of parent involvement is addressed in both IDEA and NCLB. States are developing initiatives and programs focused on families in an effort to increase the impact of parent involvement on the overall outcomes of education programs.
North Dakota - Title I Parent Involvement Resources
The North Dakota Department of Public Instruction has created a tremendous collection of legislation, policy templates, ideas for creating programs, and other resources targeted to the increased involvement of parents and families in the education of their children.
Wisconsin Statewide Parent-Educator Initiative
The Wisconsin Statewide Parent-Educator Initiative (WSPEI) is a service for parents, educators, and others interested in parent-educator partnerships for children with disabilities. Its goal is to help parents and school districts find or create the resources that will help them build positive working relationships that lead to shared decision making and children’s learning.
